Their video of the sapphire is a fascinating exercise in preventing the viewer from seeing the window. The meets look nice though.

I've observed that most high end buyers respond and bid as a function of the words "Magnificent and Kashmir"

Most vintage gems are not cut perfectly. Far from it. But there is a certain "soul" they possess that makes me overlook it. :)

What do you call "the meets" ? Is it the way the facets join at the girdle ? Sorry about my english limitation.

I don't like the video at all, with all these odd lightings. It seems to hide the real stone more than it shows it.

I think that I'm being technically correct when I say this, but what I mean is that the facets are cut precisely enough that three or four would meet at a point rather than being fudged together with a connecting line.

Ie, a vs b. You'll see basically 100% b on your typical overseas cut stones done on a jamb peg, and while the results can still be very attractive you don't get the perfect crisp geometric perfection of a. It's essentially an indication of sloppiness, similar to rounded facets.

I agree 100%. The video is artful without being informative - but you are right about the meets, those we can see!

pls excuse me for speaking up in presence of gurus but i think a window would be more relevant for stones where pavilion facets are suppose to reflect light and show color. in case of kashmir sapphires , which lack transparency of regular sapphires , light is reflected from inclusions within the stones. thus window or not , the color is evenly distributed through out the stone . the valveti appearance too is because of this inclusion dependent color distribution .

this is the understanding i have gathered from various texts , i could be totally wrong though.

They aren't that milky, or faceting wouldn't benefit them in the first place. You still want to have the light reflected back by the pavilion or you'll have two problems: the color won't be set off by the reflections and skin color will bleed through. I have a number of faceted rose quartzes and hessonites which are sleepier than this stone and you can definitely tell when they're windowed.
