Let’s talk Tourmaline
Tuesday, January 11
6:00 p.m. PT Virtual Meet/Greet | 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. PT Lecture
Image

Join the Golden Gate chapter along with the Vancouver and Seattle chapters to welcome guest speaker Brendan Laurs as we delve into the incredible rainbow colored varieties of Tourmaline. What are the treatments, value factors, inclusions, and future challenges for the gem testing labs of this vast group? Finally, Brendan will talk about the origin determinations for the brilliant Paraiba type gems.

Brendan Laurs (MS, GG, FGA) is the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Gemmology published by Gemmological Association of Great Britain, as well as past editor of GIA’s quarterly journal Gems and Gemology. His geological and gemological specialization is in the formation of colored gemstone deposits.

What a pity that the schedule is impractical for me ...
Nevertheless thank you again, Barbra, for the information. Tourmalines, like garnets, are a very attractive mineral world.

One thing I would like to see in this is talking about how various chromophores affect the axis colours for tourmaline, there's a lot of instances of odd colours that you need experience with many stones to explain.
Wonder if they'll get to show off any laurellite specimens...

Any chance of a link to the YouTube videos? Did a search there and got a lot of trash...

Thanks!
