So the way they look now is how they're supposed to look?
I guess I just have to make my images smaller in Photoshop in the future then, before I upload them to Imageshack.
Thanks. :)

You're welcome.
I like to keep my images at about 500-600px max in width for the forum.

Barbra,

Are you still using ImageShack? I tried to uoload but the have gone to an inexpensive
'pay" model - $2.oo / mo. I'm waithing to get some tech gear updated and reinstall ed before I decide; I'm think ing that Picasa may work IF I can get it to store and retrieve images from a 2T wireless drive that is to be reinstalled, anlong with much faster bandwidth.

Thanks!

John

Hi John.
That's a recent development with ImageShack.
I got over the initial $hock and forked out $20 for a year.
The organization is better now and the links direct without ImageShack adverts.

Thank you, Barbra!!! That's what I'll probably do.

As Tim says. Imageshack was perhaps the best option when it first came out, but I think Imgur effectively obsoletes it.

Here's a quick step-by-step on how to use imgur to post pictures.

Step 1: go to http://www.imgur.com
Step 2: at the very top, click the blue "upload images" button.
Image
Step 3: A pop-up will appear. Press "Browse your Computer," navigate to your images within your computer, select the ones you want, click open'.
Image
Alt step 3: Or you can drag 'n drop files from your folders directly onto your browser window.
Step 4: click start upload
Image
Step 5: wait while they upload.
Step 6: once the image is uploaded, you will see a smaller preview of it. Right click the preview image and click "copy image location"
Image
Step 7: Paste the url you just copied between [img] tags, like so:
Code:
[img]yourURLhere[/img]

So for instance,
Code:
[img]http://i.imgur.com/jYWTi7z.jpg[/img]

Becomes

The vast majority of my gem photography is forensic, so for evidential, security and archiving reasons I still use film. I use Nikon equipment so it is easy to change the film camera for a digital one, but I am not au fait with all the hosting services so a copy and paste facility would be most useful.

And, most importantly limit your picture width to 600px, otherwise, it distorts the pages and and increases download time to an unreasonable level for our members with lower internet connection speeds!
Thanks for complying.

Minor edit to imgur post.

It may be that I upgraded to windows 10, but when I am on imgur, and I right click on an image I get the following:

Image

If I select copy link, you get the link in the clipboard.

http://imgur.com/1XOAYz8

If you paste this into the post, it will not work because it is missing <p>[img]and[/img]</p>

You could add them manually.

Or

If you do the following steps, you will be good to go.
Select the image then:
1) select large thumbnail (you only have to do this once per session)
2) select copy by BBC board

Image

Now when you do a paste into the post, you get the entire link.

'[ing]hxxx://i.ingur.com/1XOAYz8l.jpg[/ing]' typos inserted so it would appear as text.

The image is the correct size, number of pixels, and life is fine. (until you delete the image when cleaning up imgur later on...... never mind how I know that.)

Note that I did say to add [img] tags around it, but it may be easier for people to c/p the prebaked version. The way I wrote it up is the way I do it, but often I'm posting large batches of images on other forums, which may be less typical for what people are after here.
(Note also that there's no need to remove images anymore from a storage perspective. Ever since they removed the paid subscription feature you can view all of your uploaded pictures at all times).
