While I am new here, I am at a loss. I just finished reading a couple of chats that 'doos' was in and was taken by his knowledge, humility, and wonderful personality....and now I find this thread. I feel like I have lost a friend without ever crossing paths with him. RIP Alain; I wish I had had the opportunity to know you.

Alain,
I know, I'm late, shame on Me and on your friends, we almost missed to remember you at least in the day you decided to leave us all, completely shattered............it was 5 years ago. Whatever, wherever you are now, I'm sure you will be happy to see the gemmo community is still alive and kickin' and your huge effort to make it better was not lost......new generations still enjoy your gargantuan contribute. Unfortunately people like you are almost impossible to substitute, we are still looking for a worthy heir, but i fear it would be impossible to find....Rest in peace my friend............ciao.............Albé

Just got this nice holiday greetings card from Alain's Mom this morning

Image

She thanked us for all the years we all remember Alain on GO. She even said she visit our forum often.
that was unexpected and sent me straight back to tears....

Dear Mrs Van Acker, no one here will be grateful enough to Alain for what he have done for all of us. I, for one, couldn't have achieved many results without his precious help and, for sure that is true for MANY of us. i really hope you will continue to read us and appreciate what we are trying to do with the legacy he has left. That maybe could help you just a little bit in trying to heal your pain for your (and ours) immense loss. Sometimes I am sure he's still around here enjoying his passion for Gemology.....

on my and Gemologyonline members behalf, i wish you the best for a happy new year.

Alberto

PS: if you want to contact Barbra you can use her email address barbra@gemologyonline.com

That was nice of her to send you, Alberto. It goes to show how much of an impression Doos made on everyone. I am glad I was around back then, for at least a little while..... to learn from him, chat with him a few times, and to laugh at his pithy comments. I wish I had come to GO earlier, though.
:(

I certainly miss his quick and cutting wit. Never afraid to call a spade a spade even scientific terms.
