AIGS & GGTL Announce Launch of ‘Gem Alliance’

The Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences Laboratory and GGTL announced today that they are joining forces to form the Gem Alliance, a cooperation based on the sharing of information and gemological data.
The decision was reached between AIGS Lab chairman Kennedy Ho and the founders of GGTL, Franck Notari and Dr. Thomas Hainschwang.
Commenting on the Gem Alliance, Kennedy Ho said, “We recognized that by working together, we make our labs stronger, which led to the decision to form this alliance.”
The AIGS Lab, based in Bangkok, serves the gem and jewelry industry and the public alike with a comprehensive range of gemstone and jewelry analysis reports. Founded by the Ho Group, AIGS will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018.
GGTL Laboratories (GemLab and GemTechLab), based in Geneva and Liechtenstein, is a 20 year old, full-service, independent gemological testing lab. Founded and managed by renowned gemological experts and researchers Franck Notari and Dr. Thomas Hainschwang, GGTL’s team of professional gemologists provide the complete range of lab services for diamonds, gemstones and pearls, with specialist focus on a number of advanced fields of research, including fancy colored diamonds and synthetic diamond detection.

Smart move, many Swiss based Labs like GRS and Christian Dunaigre have actually stronger presence in Thailand due to high demand. GGTL is joined forces by two great labs GemLab and GemTechLab and Alliance with a well respected Thailand based Lab like AIGS is definitely a good move, AIGS is well known Gemological school & Gem Lab which has long history and Thai traders are familiar with it's name, on other hand for the last decade they had difficulties to upgrade their Gemological Instruments! it was in 2012 that they got LIBS Machine ( announced here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=15439 ) but still the trade preferred Swiss name on the colored stones because of their knowledge on Instruments and their access to the database. so for sure GGTL has both but their clients are mostly limited to small European region and they need more customers now with combination of familiar Thai Gem Lab Name and Swiss expertise they all want to benefit more from the Gemstone Report demand. still there are a lot to discuss about Gem Labs. most of Labs these days (specially those in Thailand) are in favor of Sellers and few Labs are on Buyers side! surprisingly GIA tries to remain Neutral.
