Greeting Quizmasters,

Todays gem quiz is simple: be the first person to correctly identify the nine mineral gems and you will win the latest copy of Gemology Tools Professional ($59.95 value).

There are enough gemological clues for each stone to make an ID. Some of the stones aren't very common. There is a picture of each one but note that ALL monitors render colors slightly to greatly different from each other. This means you should use the color provided in the clue and not what you see on the screen.

You may give as many answers as you like but all your answers must have all 9 stones listed. I will only tell you how many stones you got correct (but not which ones). Therefore, look at other peoples answers as well to gain clues.

I expect this quiz to be over in under an hour so let's get it going. Go to:

http://www.gemologytools.com/Quiz.htm

Good luck!

LOL! Those of us who usually play already own the software now, and thus are disqualified from this new quiz.

We need some brave new people who are willing to try to win this great software - you have nothing to lose and it's worth it if you win!

OK Gang,

I guess they're too hard!!. Hint: Numbers 3, 6, 7 and 8 almost any gem-o-phile should get. The rest are, admittedly, harder.

Stab in the dark

1 turmaline
2 kyanite
3 iolite
4 taafeite
5 bastanesite
6 clinoziosite
6 natrosilite
8 mawsitsit
9 sphene

If the point of the exercise is to prove that w/o the proper database this is not fun... you've done it already!

Hi Valeria102,

Thanks for participating. You got three right. Hint: Crystallize got a different one right than you did. So, thus far, four positive hits.

Sorry Gem,

No. Besides the photos aren't the way to go. The Gemstone Separator is the proper tool for this assignment. Using the Separator it took me slighly over 5 minutes to run all the data and come up with answers for each gem. Granted I had all the data on one piece of paper but it shows how quickly (even if it took slighly longer in the real world) GT Pro can work for you.
