Dchallener: "the clown of the mineral kingdom" if asking a riddle, then my answer is probably Chalcedony, the Agate. Or Ammolite

So, it's not fool's gold (pyrite)? This was my first guess.

Then, does the mineral share its name with a clown (real or fictional)? (i.e. like grimaldiite, pierrotite..)

Is the mineral a clown because it's wearing 'ridiculous' makeup? (i.e. like 'aqua aura' quartz or 'mystic' topaz..)
