Hi,

International times can be found at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/f ... c=0&p1=179

Antoinette has a very busy schedule and it is a great privilige that she wanted to do a chat with us in what is probably the only full week she could spend with her family this season.

Antoinette has written many articles and books, the most influentional book is probably the one she wrote with her father Antonio Bonanno "Gem Identification Made Easy"
This book should be in hands-reach for every gemmologist and gemmology student as it provides us with very valuable information that can be used in the field and in the lab and all in plain English.

Way to go, Doos!

I'm new here, so I don't know if I know you, yet, but I do know Antionette, and have shared some students with her, through the years. For thise who don't know her already, you're in for a rare treat, and for everyone else, I'll be in line waiting, just like you will!

Hi Friends,

Sadly I will not be here as I will be traveling in France...

But I would like not to miss the occasion to send a message to Antoinette Matlins:

I was lucky to find one of her "gemstone identification Made easy" in the library of my burmese mentor in Yangon while i moved there to study gemology in October 2000. It was really great as while studying in my Burmese local school, we could not use real gemmological microscope and our school had not enough RI liquid to allow student to use the refractometer.
We had to identify gems in local market condition with as main instrument ou eyes and brain. It was a great gemmological experience and her book helped me a lot to become rapidly efficient in class and in the local market.

I do believe that pocket instruments are very useful and her book was filling a gap as in the teaching of gemmology many people forget that with these simple intruments, we can get a lot of information.

Going to the field with a triplet loupe, a dark field loupe, a dichrsocope and a color filter is enough in most case if you know your gems.

Antoinette Matlins book: "gemstone identification made easy" is as a result one of my favorite books regarding gemmology as it is one of the book that really helped me to enjoy learning about gems and get the skills necessary for a "countryside French guy" to become a professional gemologist.

So I would like truly to thanks Antoinette Matlins to have written such a useful book.
Sadly we never met but I believe that one day I will be able to tell you all the good thing about your book myself!

All the best for the celebrity chat!

Could someone help me figure out how to use the chat room? I'm logged in as "guest", can type a message in the box, but can't figure out how to send it!

What am I doing wrong?

TIA Janis

Hi Widget,

To send a message type your message and press enter on the keyboard.

before you enter the chatroom is the best time to type your own name into the name box...It can be changed in the room but it's easier to type it in before you enter...just delete guest**** and type your name

the chats already started so might be late advice for you... but maybe it can make it easier for others in the future

Be well

Frank

Hi all,

Thanks for showing up in masses last Sunday and help make the chat into a success.
There were some internet connection issues, but all in all I found it a very informative chat.

You can read the log at http://yey.be/Matlins.cgi

Sorry to hear you missed it Valeria, maybe you might be interested in reading the "how to install trillian" post. That would log you in without any problems in a second.
I have given that tip many times before.
