The first of a new series of gemmology chats / lessons was held last Sunday. Sticky 11 was the only student but we had a nice chat concerning total internal reflection. (TIR)
The subject will be continued next Sunday at 8pm GMT. All are welcome to attend whether you are a student studying for a certificate or just another gem nerd who wants to learn more about gemmology.
Best regards and thanks to Africanuck and Stick 11 for turning up and taking part.

Sorry I had to bow out so suddenly. Usually my evenings are quiet, but it seemed that everyone needed me at the same time.
For info, and this doesn't mean it's the order they will teach in, but the new Diploma notes are in the form of "add-ons" for the Foundation chapters. Not all of the Foundation chapters have Diploma additions.
The first numerically is Chapter 2 "Observation and Magnification" and deals primarily with the Microscope. Inclusions and the categories, Identifying Inclusions, Magnification and microscopes, a rundown on Angular magnification, Types of Microscopes, The Use of Polarizing Ilyers with a microscope, using one as a polariscope, as a dichroscope, Observing spectra through the microscope, Photomicrography, Care and Use.
Don't know if I'm going to make it tonight. We've got a house full of unexpected visitors and though I'm hoping they'll be gone they aren't making any "we'd best be going " noises yet. If I can make it I'll be there...if a little late
apologies same here got my nieces and nephews climbing all over the place! will be there next week.

The chats were restarted some months back but due to a lack of participants they were stopped again.
I'm happy to restart them but I need some regular students. There is nothing more depressing than keeping myself company for an hour in an empty chat room hoping someone will turn up.

Hi Frank, I think that lots of casual users or lurkers on G.O. never check out the sidebar links or deeper posts, and don't realize that the gemology chats exist! Maybe I can make a general post asking if anyone would be interested in regular discussions... what is the minimum amount of students that would make this worth your time? 5 or 10?
Does that sound okay to you, Frank? I don't want to pressure anyone into any sort of commitment.
