This is from my small collection: a clear internally flawless ethiopian opal, 17 cts Picture taken by a window with some sun coming through. Wish I had a better camera (or more talent), since pictures of opals rarely do them justice...

Looking at the world class baubles you guys are posting, this one took a bit of daring So, it is a big chunk of something not terribly expensive but with such endearing color it reminded me of this list from the first glance. Could it be a gem carver's paperweight? You be the judge:
Wouldn't jump to conclusions to call fluorite a gem, and I know all to well that more spectacular colors of the species are available, BUT, what else could be a carving-friendly, fist-size chunk of old rose color?

A 9ct sapphire/ruby?.
This stone is a colour change and varies at different times of the day & in different lights. From BubbleGum pink to Purple to Orangy Red to Orangy Pink. It is highly flurescent (orange/red) and seems to absorb light. ie: the longer it is in natural daylight the deeper the colour becomes. Testing so far is showing more Ruby than Sapphire, but the local gemmo's have never seen this colour before. I picked this stone up in Africa (umba/tanga) last year and was sold to me in rough from the miner as one of 4 strange garnets. A sister stone to this went missing while over there. Totaly eye clean and tests so far indicate no heat. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Thanks from Gem Hunter
