Here is a pretty (BIG) Kunzite!!! From www.cherrypicked.com

Image

can you wear it? at 2.75 inches long by 1.94 inches wide, I think not.
but this rich rose pink kunzite with orchid highlights is one of the largest
and finest we will ever come across and will make a splendid display
piece or lively paper weight for your library or office. after seeing some
large items of lesser quality being offered on the internet - one weighing
considerably less with an opening bid price of 1.5 million US dollars - I
thought it would be appropriate to share with our viewers an inside look at
how this merchandise is really appreciated and valued in the
marketplace; $135 per carat is not unreasonable. another fascinating
aspect of the gem is an inclusion we found particularly alluring; suspended
within the gem is a thin tube running perpendicular to the table. spending
many days gazing at this massive wonder did not lessen it’s impact one bit. let this gem grow
on you and make it the crown jewel of your world.

Faceted Brazilian Kunzite
Weight: 888.91 carats

Can't afford that Pariaba you want?

Here is a beautiful Apatite, the only draw back is its softness, five on the mohs scale, I believe. Still nice for a pendent!

Don't know if this stone is acually as orangish red as it looks, but if it is, it is a very nice Zircon in a color I don't see to often.

Atractive price to.

Is it a Sapphire?

Is it a Tanzanite?

No, a beautiful Cobalt blue Spinel!

Size & price unknown.

I would have sworn it was Tanzanite from the image. Nice.

That blue spinel is amazing. Does anybody have any links to any other really nice blue spinels? Or any pictures you would care to share?

The reason I ask is I have two natural blue spinels of very nice color. I am trying to understand were mine would fall quality wise compared to what's out there.

Thanks in advance Doug

P. S. Red spinel thanks for all the nice pics.

Re: reddish zircon - yes, Cresla keeps bringing in nice things. Check their so called 'color change tourmaline' - the strongly trichroic 'sunset'. There are a couple of 3-5cts pieces that might make nice preforms for a recut.

Re: blue spinel... Heh, I wish I knew. How much fine blue spinel is there anyway? Online (and off, this time), only knew a couple - one on 'Concavegems' (the rectangle), a couple at Pala (really - two or three small ones) and... perhaps a handful more, but would need to look out. In person, I've never just found a fine blue spinel - it looks like these guys only appear if you beat the grass on purpose. I have the bad habit of calling fine blue spinel those that stand by fine sapphire, simply because such oddities happen to exist rare as they are.

Image

Here's another IDEA. One of the dark kind - big enough to be a step above, IMO... which justifies the tag for me in this size. Below 5 cts, I wonder if the matter is anywhere similar (guess not). It is somewhat sad that the grayish spinels don't get better press, after all, muted 'natural' colors are forever fashionable, only not for gems!

You may find a couple more refs where THIS comes from. Isn't it close to yours? Not sure why they call this color 'greenish blue' but it defines blue spinel for me like nothing else ('Prussian blue', I guess).

Some thoughts...

Thanks for the replies on the blue spinel & red zircon!

Valeria102, I went to your link for the blue spinel (not bad!) & found this tourmaline there for my gem of the day. Quite the stone if its actually the color or close to the image. I thought it would be interesting in light of recent talk here about Paraiba colored tourmaline with out copper.

New Find! Surreal Color Afghanistan Tourmaline 12.73 ct GLI
Origin: Afghanistan

Price: $3800.00

Weight: 12.73 carats!

Size: 21 x 9.5 mm

Clarity: Slight non distracting inclusions visible under careful inspection. A beautiful glowing GEM!

Cut: USA cut scissors style emerald shape. Beautiful cut NO window!

Color: Glowing neon slightly bluish green! Perfect tone and a truly rare and beautiful color!

Treatment: None guaranteed natural color!

Note: This Tourmaline is from a small new find in Afghanistan. We have been able to procure nearly all the rough from this find!
The color is absolutely incredible and unseen on the market! You wont see anything like it on eBay or elsewhere. Most sellers on eBay would blazon the word Paraiba in the title and description.

If you have ever wanted to own a unique and world class Indicolite Tourmaline this is it and... considering the beauty and rarity, the asking price is excellent!

Tired of buying so called Paraiba Tourmaline on eBay just to be disappointed when the package arrives? You will not be disappointed in the quality of this gem!

This wonderful GEM quality Tourmaline is brought to you direct from Afghanistan by Gem Line. Your source for rare and beautiful gemstones!

Funny how that Afghan tourmaline competes for about the same budget with a 1-and-something carat true Paraiba with a handful of inclusions. Clearly there is a bit of difference in color intensity, but for someone intent on wearing either in jewelry aside stashing them for fun, it makes an uneasy comparison!

My favorites are phenomenal stones (cats eye, stars...) and have a soft spot of agate. If there was a day's favorite, it would be a white star or cats eye something (been impressed by a large cat's eye pinkish-white scapolite earlier this year, unbelievable clear and strong eye, unexpected material.. what more to ask for?). Perfect winter bauble, as far as I am concerned. White star sapphire looks terribly elusive. Anything interesting of the sort you might know of?
