This is a funny jasper I wanted to share: it's called "Chicken track jasper" because of the chicken feet-like features found on the top (or bottom?) of the jasper layers. My guess would be that they are old mud cracks...

A "picture jasper" is any jasper that when cut shows features resembling a landscape, I'd guess. So the chicken track jasper should belong to the "picture jaspers" group.

As of this date there are more than 75 different named picture jaspers just from the Idaho/Oregon area generally termed "the Owyhees." That number doesn't include named picture jaspers from many other points around the globe. Chicken Track Jasper comes from the southern end of that region near the Oregon/Nevada border.
For a sampling of the many varieties visit Hans Gamma's wonderful website World of Jaspers http://www.worldofjaspers.com/

Knowing how much Marco enjoys gem names containing the honorific word "Imperial," here are a couple of cabs I cut last week: Pink Imperial Jasper and Green Imperial Jasper, both from Mexico.

I understand that some people call that jasper Royal Imperial jasper, just to add even more, uhm, "noblesse". I'm not an aristocrat, therefore I stick with more plebeian chicken jaspers and such. Anyway a real marketing expert would have called my jasper shown above something like "Pheasants track jasper". More classy, and it sounds expensive. Would you call a jasper you want to sell for an high price "Royal pheasant jasper" or "Sanders' KFC jasper" ?
Anyway, nice cabs. That jasper can take a really good polish, when worked properly (as you did).

I'll have the Royal Imperial Pheasant Jasper under glass, s'il vous plait, Monsieur.
Actually I believe my stones aren't sufficiently aristocratic to demand the Royal designation. I think that title's reserved for the intricately-orbed material from the same general location like this:
