Maybe this is where those treated emeralds beads came from... |

Wow, Looks impressive even though obviously heavily included and fractured. Being no expert in the field I just ponder why anybody would have to resort to destructive testing to identify it properly. Interesting anyway. |

The article linked above wrote: The stone has been appraised at $1.15 million Yup, I think that if a tycoon gets both insane and blind simultaneously, and loose any sense of good taste as well, he/she may pay that price. What's next: to cut a quartzite boulder to get the biggest faceted white amethyst? (note: if green is the color for irony, I think maroon would be a good candidate color for marketing bulls**t ) Anyway, it looks like it was faceted with this : |

Used to see alot of low grade Brizillian emarald in Jaipur, all sizes, but not as big as that piece of crap. These day it is mostly Zambian, thanks to Gemfields, and the quality is alot better |

Yes, but a necklace of decent little Zambian emeralds beads has many chances of being a pretty piece of jewelry (Mom sure would appreciate one, for example ). That shapeless boulder of dyed maybe-in-part-beryl could be a substitute for the rock I used to avoid the door of my office to slam (yup, a classic with geologists... Anyway, it was a cool piece of obsidian). I would prefer a cube of granite instead of that piece. Let alone the 1.2M $ of appraisal value... I'd have a coupla questions for that appraiser. |

I'm wondering how much diamond powder or other oxides was needed to polish this stone ! This would probably cost more than the stone itself |

last week a gent came in and asked my opinion on an "emerald". It weighed 1,660 carats or there about, was opaque, white with black streaks and green dyed fractures. Yes it was sort of faceted. I told him I wouldn't give him $50.00 for it, turns out he paid $200, so not too bad. He then he showed me a laminated "appraisal" from a lab in Los Angeles, signed by a G.G. (to my shame), value $165,000.00. Now I regret not buying such a blatent example of fraud and missdealing, with documentation no less. Boggles the mind really. |

Barbra Voltaire wrote: This is the 3rd thread on this stone. I think that it's exactly the purpose of the people who market this... stone: getting popular. Who cares if it's a piece of "what Barrett said": it's the biggest "emerald" ever! The more people will talk about this super-huge, ehm, "emerald", the more money it could bring, when sold. They are trying to build an hype. Good or bad comments it does not matter much: it's getting famous. Mission accomplished I'd say. The only thing I really regret is that with this comment I'm probably giving my tiny contribute to the popularity of this piece of stone. I love marketing... |
