Have you ever seen a Hauyn triplet?

Big rough is rare and usually there are more small ones to be found than bigger ones.
So what to do with all these very small but fine quality Hauyn?

Well, what about triplets? A good idea I thought ....

But: all beginning is difficult!

The first time it did not succeed to put the hauyn so closely next to each other so that more blue came through. After laying the small Hauyn crystal on the adhesives on the side of polished white agate and after drying the layer it had to be cut carfully. Then the cabochon of rock crystal have to be lay on the layer.

"Ingredients":
1) preform white Agate oval 18x13mm
2) 1,2ct small Hauyn from Germany Eifel, Mendig, In den Dellen
3) preform Rock crystal oval 18x13mm

The result is a Hauyn triplet oval 17x12mm.

Really, I can tell you this is more difficult than you can imagine.
Perhaps it remains unique ....

Someone has an idea how to make Hauyne triplets better?
It seems to me like patch work ....

 Maybe it was the first time, but maybe the last time ....

Amazing and inventive use of a rare gem!

I bought ten pounds of lava sand/gravel from that quarry, but haven't yet found a hauyne that would yield even a 1 mm stone.

Well, you want to facet my 1,02ct rough Hauyn?

When I found it I felt happy so much [-o< .... and remained quiet until I saw my husband and told him ....

Hm.... perhaps instead of grinding them flat and then attaching the triplet cover, you could glue them onto some backing with CA glue? From there you could grind the hauyne down just enough to be able to stick them on the heads of pins or toothpicks after the glue has been dissolved away.

This should allow you to shape the outline of each hauyne shard, which might allow a closer fit if the resulting shape is roughly angular.
You should then be able to carefully fit them together in a manner similar to dry stone masonry once cut in this manner, and since the gaps will be fairly small the pieces should take up a thin adhesive through capillary action.

If that doesn't end up making a fairly sturdy triplet you could instead glue the shaped pieces to each other and then grind one edge until it can accept another piece of hauyne. Wastage will be much higher but after a while you should end up with a slab of fragments stuck together much in the same way as those constructed turquoise cabs are.

Image Have a few cut hauyne, the largest only 20 points. I also have a bag of rough, some of which might cut 3 points or less.

Well, my biggest Hauyne is round fac. 2,90mm but with an easy cut (cutted by a friend).

So because there is mostly no fine nice blue quality to find in internet, I got the idea of the triplet because fine rough in small there is enough on the market (and found by myself).

It is not easy to put these small crystals to the glue and it took more than 12 hours only for to put the blue on the glue waiting until it is dried and then be polished carefully. Depending on how the crystal is, it becomes smaller by polishing and than more white of the white agate is to be seen.
Yes indeed I thought about to take two layers of blue crystal but it will getting much higher, second time of polishing and it will take therefore much more time.

That would become invaluable ....
