Interesting shots. Thanks for the tech data on lighting and camera settings. I do notice considerable background color difference in the two shots however. It would be even more noticeable in cropped side-by-side mages. Maybe exposure changes could alleviate that, as you mention.
Just as a side note, light bulbs hadn't been invented when Alexandrite was discovered, so candlelight (or equivalent) is probably the authentic light source for "evening" alex. A friend steered me to a guy who was selling candlelight-equivalent glass filters for a Maglite flashlight. I'm always reluctant to use it while showing stones because it tends to greatly oversaturate the red, even though it's probably more "authentic" than common incandescent lights.
