I think it's from around the Tanzania/Kenya border, so the right area for the name. I don't know if it's actually mined by Masai or anything like that.

I finally got my own really nice Sanarka Topaz. Believe it or not, it is even more intense than this photo - and in sunlight it is grape juice purple:

Just a specimen - because it is really small. But I just wanted one that looked like the cover of the book "The Russian Brazil" and this is it!
