Image I agree-your cut gems should have an exact weight. More important in specimens and crystals are the dimensions. This Pezzottaite in quartz is 95% colorless quartz. The physical size of the Pezzo. is more important than the 15-20cts. of quartz. I have red beryl specimens that are tiny red stones attached to huge pieces of rhyolite matrix. I also have a few cut Pezzo's. I'm a big fan of the beryls. :D

I am in love with this one, been carrying around with me and looking at it every chance I get. The culet is oriented across the short axis of the oval on this design. Dan was attempting to pull more of the c-axis color, at my request. Do you think it worked?

Recently finished another Merelani Mint Garnet. Although the rough was from 2013. Finished weight: 1.86ct. Looks nicer in the hand than with the white backgrounds.

Have altered the lighting arrangement to better view the inclusions typical of Grossulars from Tanzania.

Blue Zircon here - started out at roughly 4.75ct, with very heavy belly, and yet the culet was still open. Started out like this, including the various chips on the girdle.
Image
Finished out at 3.97ct and 8.5 x 6.1mm.
Pavilion: 53* / 49* / 45* / 42*
Crown: 42* / 35* / 30* / 21* (exhibiting horizontal split on the mains, 5* apart)

A vivid orangey-pink padparadscha sapphire purchased in Ratnapura last month, with AGL pad and origin confirmation. A very cool stone - hot pink face up but more orange in oblique viewing. My favorite stone from the trip.
