One of the images in the gallery is plato-sandmeier lines in flame fusion corundum. Somebody could give me a reference to read more about this effect? Why it is called so? Thanks in advance!

I just have seen that these lines were described in the Photoatlas Vol 1, p. 478.:
Quote:
Viewed parallel to the optic axis in polarized light, the so-called "Sandmeier-Plato" striations, resulting from polysynthetic twinning along the prism of second order (11-20), which can often be observed as a characteristic feature of synthetic "Verneuil corundum".
