Hello, i got this sri-lanka sapphire last week and was wondering if this happens often in sapphires. It's a very interesting effect.

This feature is typical of beryllium-diffused sapphires (or theoretically any rutile-bearing sapphire heated at high temperatures for long periods). Rutile breaks down, and the titanium from it diffuses into the surrounding sapphire, coloring it blue.
