spessartite in sapphire (color change) at approximately 7.4x (thanks, oscar).
don't know where it's from, i bought it a long time ago from a junk bin. i should re-polish it and get rid of the facet junction and try and get a really nice shot. this was the only good angle available

i went back to the Makrozoom lens because i have the doubler for that and it was needed for the size of this inclusion.
this is 33 images in Helicon, with the Macrorail in polarized light.
what a difference between the Apozoom and Makrozoom lenses.
for those who care, there is a ton of defringing necessary.
here is the original, before running it through Lightroom (and getting rid of some dust), followed by the "after" shot.

look at all that blue and pink fringe that has to be removed! i still couldn't get all of it out. i COULD get the rest of it out in Photoshop, but i try to do as little as possible in PS.

That's a fantastic shot Danny, particularly the large image. I don't understand the reluctance to use Photoshop. Is that considered bad form in photography circles? Just curious.

hi michael. it's certainly not a bad thing. some of the best, most evocative images i've ever seen were heavily photoshopped. if ansel adams were alive today, he'd be dodging and burning in photoshop with the best of them.
it's just that i find these (all) inclusions so amazing that i don't ever want there to be a doubt that the photos i take aren't "as seen through the scope". ya know?
but sometimes i DO get carried away with my reluctance to do too much. eg. if i ever go to print this image, i should get those magenta hot spots out.

Very nice shot Danny. I do not really think the PS work is a real improvement. First shot would be quite all right if just removing the dust. Second image feels, in my opinion, a bit flatter and less alive. But thats me ;)

conny, i think i agree.
it's lightroom, though, that did all the work/damage? ;)
i'm putting the Apozoom back on and i'm not taking it off.
