How thick are the originals? The image is great! I would suggest trying a few things like vitamin C dissolved in a little alcohol and then recrystallized on a glass slide after evaporating. Several organic materials like: naphtha (moth balls), camphor, vitamins, caffeine (nodoz), can al be recrystallized from alcohol on flat slides to produce wonderfully colorful patterns under crossed polarizers.

The originals are about 1 to 1.5 mm in thickness.
Thanks for the tips, seems pretty fun. Caffeine and Vitamin C I can manage but moth balls I have not seen since I was a kid :) I will try it out as soon as this crazy flu lets go of me. It came sudden, as a flash from clear sky and now it feels like I have been beaten with a baseball bat all over...

Reminds me of rock thin sections viewed between crossed polaroids with a petrographic scope.
