Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone happens to know of any really good internet raman gemstone databases. I'm currently looking at various gemstones (natural, synthetic, imitation, glass-filled, treated/enhanced etc.) using raman spectroscopy and for some of the gemstones I have no accompanying information on any of the packaging which may indicate what it may be. I'm looking to see if anyone knows of any databases that allow you to input peak numbers from which they give you results on the type of stone that it could be or any good raman database in general would be great!

Thanks!

Hi Alberto

Thank you very much for the link, I'll have a peek and see what it's all about!

I'm currently looking at gems using a Thermo Scientific DXR Raman, it's pretty straight forward to use but I don't have a gemstone library/database on my system and there aren't that many gemstone databases online where I can compare and contrast my spectra.

Some of the stones are straight forward to analyse as I may already have an inkling of what type of stone I have. The true problem lies where I have no idea what type of stone i'm dealing with and therefore have to compare and contrast my spectrum with one online. It would be absolutely great if I could find a library/database where I could input the peak numbers and in return it could give me a rough estimate of what type of stone I might be looking at.

Once again, thanks for the link, it's much appreciated! :)

Here you can find a list of online databases containing Raman spectra :
