hey guys,

So Tim is in the Etruscan hills (he can always find someone to put him up since he is such good company)

The chats will be reconvened without him on Sunday next (20th September 2009 at 20:30 GMT (9:30pm European time)) The chat will be an introduction to gemmology and will be run by myself. We will primarily be chatting about the issues which concern the current swatch of students. We will hopefully define what chats are needful and respectfully requested by the students. We will then present the curriculum to both Tim and Brian. We will thereafter insist on the subjects chosen by the fore mentioned swatch of students and insist on their inclusion in any future chat schedule. :D (We will of course be happy to participate in any chats Tim and Brian cook up which we have not included)

I love to be in a position of decision

Bart, Phyllis, Dragonstek, (and any one else seeking gemmo enlightenment|) etc etc etc... I desire your participation :D

God I love this forum

Be well

Frank

Hi guys, I'm new & green behind the ears. I'm trying to soak up as much info as possible. So, YES, I want to participate.

There could be a problem, tho. When I've tried the Chat function, I get a message that says I don't have the right pc functoions to join chat...Java or something like that.

Would you post what I need to have or have installed to fully participate?

Otherwise, I saw a reply that said he was looking forward to reading the 'Chat Logs'. If nothing else, maybe I could do that.....'cuz, for now, I probably don't have much to contribute. But, don't think I'm not trying to absorb all I can.

Thanks!!!

Hi Explorer,

If you are using windows you may have java disabled. I'm no computer whizz but you could try typing java into windows help.

The other solution would be to google java. there are free downloadable programmes that will run java for you.

The logs are always worth a read but only by participating can you ask the questions you want answered when they occur to you.

Hope to see you on Sunday... maybe on of the computer gurus will have more definate solutions for you

Be well

Frank

Sunday would be good for me Brian. No subject seemed to come out are requiring special attention at the last chat. We didn't log it because it was mostly chit chat.

I'm happy to cover any subject anyone suggests. If no one does then I'll maybe suggest something.

What about you Brian...are you teaching any new courses this next year? anything you'd like to share

Phyllis, Bart, Dragonsteak, Africanuck...Tim...Alberto Any special requests

Hi Frank & Brian,

Intergem this weekend, I may be back in time Sunday night but don't count on it. But that doesn't mean you guys shouldn't have an informative evening!

How about FLUORESCENT, PHOSPHORESCENCE....... ??

Not long ago, Mailtalk mentioned about those luminous pearl (it's phosphorescence fluorite), that's why I suggest this.

But I am easy!!! anything would do actually. :)

Well, today we talked about what we will be covering in the course, and then spent the afternoon with a loupe and a collection of mystery stones that we had to make observations about. Tomorrow we break out the microscopes.

The only question that today brought up for me was how to visually delineate the various types of luster. I suppose that will no doubt come with experience, but where and how do you draw the line between adamantine and sub-adamantine, for example?

I'll probably have more questions after tomorrow's class, although they might be a bit "elementary" for the rest of the chatters.
