I have heard of such a treatment to obtain black opal (by carbonisation of the sugar). Maybe this is a matter of gradation of the carbonisation ? You get orange before getting black ? Like caramel ?
I have an orange opal which was said treated by Smoke & Sugar Acid. I heard this treatment should creating black color instead of orange. Please correct me if i'm wrong. To be honest I'm not quite sure about the lab result which make a statement that is a treated by smoke & sugar acid. Please check pictures below, please help me to confirm.
