Hi! I just purchased a ring, sold to me as a natural spinel. The setting is unusual and has hallmarks on the outside of the shank which would indicate European origin. The ring is still on its way to me but I have a 14 day window to return it so I thought I would get a head start on determining whether it's natural. Could you help guide me on how to do that? Once it arrives I have a 10, 30 and 60x loupe. Are there specific inclusions I can look for or can it only be determined by RI? Thanks!

Oops! Posted same photo twice. I forgot to add that "their jeweler of 30 years confirmed it to be natural" but I would like to confirm it, too. Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks, I'm not even sure where to get a RI done, a local jeweler or probably more like an appraiser? I contacted the local rockhounds club and they told me to take it to a jeweler. I can take photos through my 30-60x loupe if that's helpful. I guess I could send it to AGS.
Barbara, I will have the ring in my hands this week and will loupe the hallmarks and cross check them with my hallmarks book. I suspect it is french. I will report back!
