I have always been told that chatham's flux grown sapphire and ruby are the best one available in the market. However, a friend of mine recently told me that russian and japanese made hydrothermal sapphire and ruby look exactly like chatham at a fraction of the price. They also have some inclusion like most chatham's flux gems.
Does any of you have compare the quality between those two? what do you experts think? I have not seen the material. I wonder if the hydrothermal sapphire and ruby can produce the same (or better) color compare to chatham's flux grown counterpart?

In my opinion the hydrothermal, and flux synthetic corundums produce very nice colors, and have a more natural look and texture to them when compared pulled, or flame fusion produced stones.

Yes, there are characteristic inclusions in Hydrothermal synthetic Ruby. They are a primary means of identification as they are in all ruby natural or synthetic.
