It is indeed hard to find coherent, substantive scientific background info on gem treatments online. It saddens me to report that the best site I've found, Liechtenstein-based gemlab.net, appears to be down; the owners let the domain subscription lapse. Fortunately for us, the WayBackMachine has archived the site, with the most recent snapshot taken in September 2004. You'll find a wealth of gemmological knowledge here, with plenty of helpful images: Because this is an archived copy of the site, hosted on a very busy server, the images may take some time to load, even with a fast connection. Some images may not load at all, but the majority do. Here are direct links to two excellent articles on diamond colour treatments:
Defects produced in natural diamond by color treatments Both articles are quite technical, but (IMO) still easy to understand. I haven't checked if the PDF links work, but if they do, I'd recommend printing out a hardcopy for your own reference library. In any case, I hope the above links are of use to you. |
