Hi gang,

I ran into a dark brown diamond Old European cut that had fingerprint inclusions. It also had a frosted girdle. I suspected it was either a synthetic or has been treated with HPHT to improve the color. I talked to the customer she said the stone came from Europe over sixty years ago. I contacted GIA and they said it could have been treated.

My question is, do natural diamonds have fingerprint inclusions? I know in some of the better synthetics today that fingerprints are a red flag to suspect a synthetic.

Help!

There is an article in the latest GIA Insider concerning this. See below.
