Hi Barbra,
Sorry if I jumped the gun here.
It's in the summer issue so still new.
Quote:
Highlights from Gem News International include new rubies and yellow danburite from Tanzania, “red andesine” from China, a new source of Persian turquoise and a variety of tourmaline imitations sold in Afghanistan.
I believe that Ted Themelis has also commented on this issue elsewhere.
I'm not convinced that it's prudent to wait for the exact 'how' they are doing it. But surely by now it is clear that something is being done. Obviously the test results shown so far cannot indicate the scope of it so I wouldn't presume that it applies to all stones. I can confirm though that all the stones I've been provided with the check here in South Africa show similar characteristics in immersion cells. While obviously not diagnostic is sure is a good indication that something is afoot.

No Doos. I did however read the references to it on the GIA's website.
I'm not posting this at anyone else's instigation and I'm sure you'd know this of me by now.
I'm only questioning why we are avoiding addressing this when OTHER more recognised sources than the place that initially made a splash with this issue have also made valid comments on it. Sure we don't know all the details of how etc etc etc. But isn't the the important thing the IF?
It seems to me like that much has been shown and now we're just squabbling over the technicalities. NO, I'm not saying they're not important.
Your comments make little sense as you refer to an article you yourself have not read. Read it! You will find it to be quite different than what you have read in the tabloids.
Unless the results of any kind of research are open to discussion, they are useless at best.

Dear Doos,
Please excuse my haste and jumping to conclusions. I think my sentiments are a symptom of being asked too many times by too many consumers without being able to give a clear-cut answer.

I think that's enough now Doos. There's absolutely no need to try and imply garbage like that. I happily tolerate arrogance and sarcasm but I'm afraid I won't accept baseless accusations. Even if they are deliberate attempts to get a reaction.

Ok, I have a question about this... if the purple tourmaline needs to be heated in order to change it to blue, how is it that any rough comes out other than blue? Is there any possible way to diffuse it in at less than +/- 500 C?
