Does anyone know just what variety of fakes these are? What is all that hoo-hah about "extracting the seed pearl from fresh young oyster shells" - ?? http://www.stauer.com/?sectionpath=1/240/247&pageid=997 Staying tuned, Chris |

Quote: In a more ecologically friendly approach, the Australian Pacific pearl seed is extracted from fresh oyster shells and then organically microcoated with the same nacre that coats naturally grown pearls. Giant 12mm golden South Sea pearls can cost up to $50,000 for an 18" strand. Why even think about that when you can now wear an 18" strand of 12mm Australian Pacific pearls with a consistently round shape and a rare golden color for under $300.
There you have it, just another mallorca type. |

Hey Dos - Yes, that's pretty much what I guessed, too - instead of ground-up fish scales, they use oyster spat?? Or maybe they start with a mother of pearl bead, and plastic coat it? I'm trying to find the info on "South Ocean Pearls," a product that got flack several years ago because they weren't cultured pearls, but some sort of plasticized imitation. Anybody else remember these? Weren't they marketed by LuCoral? Staying tuned, Chris |

Hello! I too was curious about these Australian Golden Pearls from Stauer and started searching. Check out this link: http://www.jewelrynewsletter.com/currentnews.pdf Essentially they're plastic! I don't think I'll get them for my wife for Christmas. |
