Was getting out my old lapidary journal magazines..was thinking of selling them since i haven't read any in over a year..well flippd through one and decided heck no..well at least not now..got to reread them again..lol..i forgot how good the older ones were..i have sense bought new ones and they suck compared to the 60's and 70's lap journals..actually all magazines suck compared to the old ones..hell..back then they were 300 page magazines..had real articles that were not just a page or two but went on for like 7-10 pages..cool stuff you don't see nowadays in rock and gem magazines really..here took a few pics from just one magazine..i bought like 60 of them all from the 50's(i think a few are from the 50's if i remember ) 60's and 70's..all for .50 cents each..really some excellent articles..lots of sinkankas stuff too can't beat 50 cents each..might hold onto them a reread them again

dr Bill did a series of good articles in the early eighties in those. Around 1984 if I'm not mistaking...

and you are right, exceptions regarded, most magazines have become one big advertising with the odd advertorial in between...

Absolutely. It was the best magazine in the industry for years. As a kid I poured through them reading every word. Sigh. Where did you go LJ? We all miss you.

A member of my local rock club was selling his old Lap Journal mags for .25 each. I bought over 200 of them. All of them from the early 1960s to about 1991 with a few old Rock and Gem mixed in as well. 4 months later i'm still looking through them! Haven't regretted the purchase one bit.

Maybe GO could contact the past editor of the old LJ and get permission for members of GO to make PDF copies of past LJ issues for educational references only. These LJ could be a valuable source of information for individuals interested in lapidary subjects. The prices are no longer valid, but I bet some of LJ advertizers are still in business. It could be a great reference as well as a tribute to the original LJ editor. winstone

Hmmm ... now who did I give all my old LJs to?? Wouldn't be nice to make a profit off of such generosity [-X 8) .
