While I used to be reasonably competent in Gemology, I have been out of the loop for a couple of decades. I am looking for a good book that will help me get back up to speed on the latest information in the field of gemology. Most importantly would be a good, in depth discussion of the latest, treatments , synthetics and simulants. Of course if could also serve as a reference on the latest understanding of natural stones as well, that would be great.

I will be up in Carlsbad at the G.I.A. later this week, so I may be able to find something in the bookstore. I can't believe that even though it is just a few miles up the road, I have never been there. Last time I was at G.I.A. it was in Santa Monica. Damn, I am old. LOL!

Anyway

All of Gems and Gemology is up online to read and download for free. That would probably be a good place to start, and it will definitely occupy some time.

Thanks Barbra, I have been reading some articles from the online version of G&G. As always, a fist rate publication.

The Handbook of Gemology digital book looks like a perfect refresher. I will definitely read it. I notice that they say that they will update the book each May. That means the 4th edition should be coming soon. I guess I will wait for that release.

Thanks for all of your efforts on this site. You are very much appreciated.

Steve
