Let's call it a draw.
I believe the book sticky 11 linked is the updated, revised edition to the book Barbra linked.

Revised by O'Donoghue and published in 2006.

You can read online portions HERE . The "More about this book" link will give you author's (Webster and O'Donoghue) information about the updates.

BTW: You may want to read about the "Congo Andesine" on pg. 262 of the link posted. Hmmm...another voice heard from on this topic.

Thanks JB, I didn't know (obviously) that O'Donogue did this update.
I always thought it was a different book.
Sorry.
The reference to Congo Andesine is very interesting!

On the next page (263) he adds the caveat: "There has been speculation as to where the red/green material actually comes from; one or other or both localities."

A kind of neat thing is, I've ran across a few links while doing searches that have digitized content or a good amount of actual excerpts from various gemological books included in pdf format.

It makes it nice for those who don't actually own the book yet. You don't get everything, but, you get quite a bit when it turns up under a specific topic you're looking for.

Never know what you'll find when you start turning over rocks. 8)

Hi,

This new edition of "Gems" is not the same as the other versions. It deals primarely with the gems and not with all the other goodies (as instruments) that are still in the 5th. So get both.

Just an update on this book... there seem to be multiple printings of the 6th edition that are NOT linked to the Google books overview. Here is the link to the newest version on Amazon. It has a different ISBN for some reason...

I'm lucky that I spent some time poking around to figure out if there was a newer version, because the difference in price was about 40 Euros!! For the SAME book, no less!!!
