Hello!
I would be very grateful for help with this diamond and Pearl ring. I know my grandmother got it as a gift from ger aunt, who got it from her parentes. So i know it's history as far back as ca 1850-1890.

The diamond is a table cut set in silver. 1 gray and 1 white pearl set in gold. Band is gold.
It's either been mended or repurposed (i think thats the word).

My question is, when do you think it was made? I was also wondering if it could have started out as an earring?

Thank you for a great forum!

What a piece! Fabulous.
I believe it is older than you have guessed. 17th century is most likely...a Georgian jewel...possibly early 18th century.
There does indeed appear to be some sort of repair on the bottom of the piece.
Correct me if I can't see clearly, but it appears as though the shank of the ring is also silver with the yellow gold only under the center portion.
Is that correct?

Wow. Thank you, that's very cool.

I'm sorry for the bad lighting in my pictures (and my English), the shank is gold. And I can't tell if it's some sort of solder or just really dirty where the repair is.

That makes better sense.
The yellow gold shank would be typical for the time, with gems set is silver.

The repair is a bit sloppy, but I would leave it alone unless you knew of a master restorer and even then, it would still be a "restored" piece.
