I have a 733 carat emerald carving of Krishna. I aquired it about 25 years ago. When I got it, I was told it was carved in 1723. I am trying to get more information about it. I have about a 11 sec viddeo on youtube. If anybody can provide me any comments or any other kind of information, it would be greatly appreciated. I am concidering selling it.The silver flute has 4 holes in it. I can provide addition pics.

Kindest Regards

Hi nicholasndi and welcome.
Nothing can be positively determined from the video.
We can't identify it as emerald, nor verify or determine it's age....more pictures won't help.

You should bring it to someone with expertise who can inspect it in person, perform necessary tests and issue proper documentation to support authenticity.
Best of luck.

Much nicer use for opaque giant emeralds (If it is one) than the faceted brutes we've been told are worth million

Hi nicholasndi
Looks like a nice carving, even if it is not a genuine antiquity
take it to Bonham or Christie they often have auctions of Asian antiquities and art
They would give you a idea what is its value and if it is a antiquitie or modern carving
What Barbra says is a better idea take it to a major museum first
to get proper documentation on it

I would like to thank evryone that has provided me comments so far.I am making some progress. I contacted the Royal Ontario Museum and recieved a quick reply, which is encouraging. I am awaiting a reply from a Curatator in L.A. Below is an email that I would like to share that I recieved from Curation of Asian Arts at the Royal Ontario Museum.

"Thank you for email. What a remarkable piece. I haven't seen anything like it before. I am sorry that I won't be able to tell you anything much about it. I showed the images to one of our Mineralogy Curators here at the ROM and she said "Can't say for certain without examining it, but the emerald doesn't look Colombian.. maybe South American, but probably African continent." but nothing much else.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. You may want to contact other curators of South Asian art in North America. Specifically, Dr. Stephen Markel, a South Asian decorative arts expert, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. "

Kindest Regards
nicholasndi

Excellent news, that's half the battle over, trying to find a 'name' to send it to.
Looking forward to hearing about the next stage in your quest.

is it fully opaque? or translucent?
if it is opaque,it has no big value, either monetary or by collector's precepective as even today one can buy such opaque giants of ruby, sapphire and emeralds carvings in jaipur in india.usually their wholesale price is few cents to a dollar per gram.cost of stone is almost nothing, its the labour for which we are charged.
i sold a similar statue weighing 11.5 kg made of african ruby for 500 USD few yrs back.
if it is translucent, then it can be a game.
wish u hit the jackpot :)

Hello kashmirsapphire, it is totally transparent. I will try and take some pics of it in front of sunlight and try to post them. Thank you for the post.

Hello Everybody. I managed to get a 3D lazer scan of the emerald Krishna carving along with some pics, a 3D viewer with instructions and the file. I posted them on Dropbox and this is the link:

Please let me know if you have any information on this piece.
