Hey guys:

I have this cheap engagement ring set, and I know the setting is very cheap, but I am interested in finding out when this kind of setting was used, and insight on how it was made. Is it a handmade setting? The pierced work is very uneven -- so bad, that I can't believe it was die-cut! Anyway, here is the image. The interesting thing is that the stone is reasonably well-cut, and quite clean and bright.
Thanks,
Neil

I'm gonna say the head was cast, but I'll let experts weigh in.

The heads are cast.

The reason the top appears so uneven is wear and tear.

The two rings have been worn together and rubbed on each other, creating intentions on the side and the wear is uneven.

When new, these rings were probably quite even and the holes matched better.

Quite right Leslie. Cast and assembled and worn.
An example of some of the first diamond wedding and engagement sets were made at this time.
14k white and yellow gold, I suspect
