Not sure if this can be assimilated to a system ring, but you have this traditional type of "bague de foi" with two articulated joined hands opening to reveal a hidden heart...

Here are a few books which I think feature some pictures of interesting antique 'system rings':

Historic Rings: Four Thousand Years of Craftsmanship Hardcover, by Diana Scarisbrick

Rings: the Alice and Louis Koch Collection, by Anna Beatriz Chadour

Of course if anyone on the forum already has these, I'd be very interested in hearing about any other types of 'system rings' featured in those books.
