Hello all!

I have recently purchased the attached ring, cabochon moonstones and blue sapphires (?) set in 18K gold. The maker's mark is S.d, there is a gap between the S and lowercase d but I think this is taken up with a period.

I considered turning it round to become P.S, but the 18K on the opposite side would then be upside down.

If anybody can help me with identification of the maker I would be most grateful!

I don't know about the mark, but if the picture is faithful, the stones look more like opalescent glass than real moonstones.
It may just be the picture of course.

Thank you for your input! Here is another photo. I can say I have noticed some adularescence.

The seller attributed to Sibyl Dunlop, but this I find highly unlikely given the mark of 18K?

When do you suspect the piece was made?
It appears to be fabricated, rather crudely.

What tools do you have to identify the gems?

There is nothing, to my eye, diagnostic of the 20's.
The metal of fashion at that time (in the US and Europe) was platinum and ring styles usually sat quite close to the hand.

Did the seller have any expertise as a gemologist or jewelry historian? If so, they should have been able to positively identify the stones and have a good idea where and when it was made.

It you were asking why I thought the ring was rather crudely made is because it is. A lot (perhaps most) jewelry is.
