We have been mining for more
than 5months now somewhere
in Nigeria. The pit was known to
be producing Siberian type of
amethyst and was left since
1992,due to thesame problem
we are facing now. We are
mining manually,and anytime we
are about to reach VUGHS, we
always experiencing collapsing
of wall along the terrain of the
main pit. The collapsing area is
now forming a shape of "gutter"
of about 4meter wide and
8meter long from where Vughs
are. Please,i need your advice on
and probably what may likely
caused this problem. Thank you

If you go a little furthur down the forum, you will find "Miners corner".
Post some info, and shots there, you will get some replies, I'm sure.

To help you, we need to understand more about what you are doing.
Is this an open pit, dug by machinary originally, or hand dug by artisan miners?(like me)
Are the walls battered back, ie stepped?
How deep?
how stable is the material normally?
You need to get some photos please.
How do you know you are about to hit vughs?
The more info you can give, the more likely some-one will be able to help.
I'm sure there are some mining engineers on the forum.
Barry.
