Post subject: Agates from Argentina. NORTHEAST REGION : Black River agate.

There is two agates deposits in the NORTHEAST REGION of Argentina. Black River agate and Cuatia agate.
First we will describe Black River agate.
BLACK RIVER agate is a water worn agate and is found in gravel pits together with concretions, jaspers, and petrified wood pieces. BLACK RIVER AGATE have contrasting banding of white, grey, beige, blue and pink colors with very low percentage of fracture specimens. Black River agate deposit originated in Southern Brazil, the material was drag down south by water when Brazil was pulled out from under the ocean and deposited in what it is called today Entre Rios Province, in Argentina. Black River agate age is the same as the Brazilian agate : Permian Black River agate was found, named and introduce in the market in 1998 by Luis de los Santos.
