Post subject:  Looking for Fire Agate Rough

Hi there,

Could someone please advise where can I purchase Fire Agate roughs?
And I also would like to ask whether Magnetite-Jade is considered as Nephrite Jade? Thank you.

:D

magnetite jade is black nephrite jade with magnetite inclusions. i think it comes from california.

after cabbing, the stone can be electroplated with gold - of course, the gold only coats the magnetite inclusions - giving the striking black and gold appearance.

as for finding fire opal rough- one mexican supplier is here
- i have never dealt with them - you might try repost this posting in the lapidary section - i'm sure you would get more info there.

or, search ebay using 'fire agate rough".

Is your iron-rich jade the Australian kind? If so, I am not aware of any debate of whether Cowell nephrite (LINK) is indeed classifiable as nephrite jade or not... it seems fully accepted and appropriatedly priced.

New Era Gems in Grass Valley, California has quite a large selection of Fire Agate rough. I have seen the material in person, a friend of mine bought a quantity of it and i can speak for it's quality. Good people to deal witha as well.

Not sure if this is too late, but they do have it on hand.
