Even though it may be (probably is? I don't know the seller) legitmate... the uber-'dissolution lines' without any real sign of trigons really looks like the phenakite/topaz fakes are engraved w/ the lines and fool the thermal inertia testers.

One would never sell such a crystal for a price that low. If you get it cut, wich is not really a problem in Thailand, you earn MONEY. I´m sure one even wouldn´t have to pay the cutter in advance, if funds are insufficient.

Smells like another example of manmade imitation of unknown kind....

There is a reserve price on the stone which is hidden. I know this vendor and can tell you the reserve is probably very high.

I looked through this vendor's selection and history. A few slightly iffy descriptions, but I've seen a lot worse.

Pretty much every one of his large ($1000+) sales has been a tanzanite.

That said, his description of his current Tanzy as "unheated" seems a manipulation of the GIA's statement about the material generally being heated but being unable to identify it on a case-by-case basis.
