Hi all,
please give me your opinions on this stone I just bought.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWNX:IT

It seems to me too good to be a natural.

10 to 1 it wont look as good as the pics. It will probably look more believable in person.

hehe- that is a given Jason!
you can easily see the diff between the vid and the tweaked stills.

I am wondering if it is a synthetic.

Generally in my experience- synthetics are well cut and large.
Much larger than this.

If you look at the static pictures, you can see that it is one and the same photo. The facet reflections are exactly the same in both photos. This has been photo-shopped to the max  . As long as the seller bothered with a video, why didn't he go ahead and change the lights to show the color change/shift? Inquiring minds want to know  .

i have seen some naturals with this same colour change- but no doubt the saturation is lifted a lot- the background in the stills shows this.

i have seen some syn sapphire with this same blue to purple change.
will be interesting as this vendor seems ok in general and is a qualified gemo.

Either way, that video has had color correction with blue added.

James,

I don't think it is necessarily synthetic.
I got a sub carat spinel from this seller for $ 0.99 long ago that was natural but bore no resemblance whatsoever to the picture.
It might be much darker and more gray for sure, actually a bluish gray with color shift sounds more like it....

Please, let us know what it is when you will receive it.

Good luck!

You might want to check what sort of neutral and negative feedback the seller got on www.toolhaus.org: http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=s ... y&ref=home

Video color saturation has been bumped and hues adjusted. Stills have had boat loads of photoshopping done to them! The blue and purple face up shots are the exact same image with the hue changed to simulate the color change! The saturation has also been extremely boosted in the still shots.

while teh stone is not in my hands- I am advised by the gemologist that it was sent to that there is no discernible clour change, and the colour is a much steelier blue that the photos would suggest.
good calls and thanks every one!

Figured as much. I have seen, and actually have here, some of the blue to purple/red cc spinel from Mahenge, beautiful stuff, but never have seen any with those colors in the pics, lol. Sorry it didn't turn out for you though. :( Did it at least turn out to be natural though?

I love the disclaimer in the listing:

"IMPORTANT

The product in this picture may not seem as attractive as original piece."

But wait, that's not all, there is also a:

"Product IMPRESSION guarantee."
