Ok, I keep looking at this ring wanting to buy it.. rare posting indeed. The stone measures 1" at its length end to end and .5" width. Some diamond doubles and a really neat design.. its priced nicely. Worth the risk?

Definitely an unusual piece--usually this type of cut isn't my bag but I like the balance on this one. I'm not sure what the risk would be, aside from the stones or metal being mislabeled.

I'm not a fan, I think the cutting on this gem didn't give it what it deserved. It was probably to shallow of a crystal to start with to keep its length so the cutter tried to get creative and failed.. But eye of the beholder rules. I think looking straight through the stone will be the individuals skin colors as you can see the ring display in a window now then will be bounced(reflected) around in the gem. Worth the risk? I don't think putting money in a slot machine is worth the risk of loosing it.

Normally, I'm not a fan of this sort of fantasy cut either (unless it was done by Munsteiner or Dyer ) but I do think the ring is interesting. If one is careful when wearing rings, shouldn't be a problem with popping the center stone. Even with proper insurance, it would be a hard stone to replace so if it were mine I'd treat it like a delicate flower.

Classics mid 80s Munsteiner inspired design. This looks to be one of the mass produced Bangkok produced cuts. It lacks the sharpness and balance that Munsteiner put into his gems.
Some Aqua was cut this way back then. But, huge amounts of blue Topaz was cut like this during that period. I treated millions of carats of these back then. I would ask the seller how he knows it is Aqua, and not blue Topaz just to be safe.

$1,500 seems a "fair" price, since you love it. It's not a steal, though. I'd love to get a better, clearer, picture of the maker's mark. The casting is a bit sloppy. Can you make a counter offer? Can you ask how the seller determined it to be aqua? Make sure you charge it to a credit card so you will have recourse in case anything is misrepresented.
