Hello to all, an absolutely delightful forum you have here!
And Barbra, my thanks for letting me in and apologies for not seeing your prompt email response from 2 August.
Long story short: My mother-in-law is in the process of thinning out some wonderful vintage items, some of which were her husband's gemology "tools of the trade", as he was a certified (ca 1953) Gemologist. She's 85 years old, not in the best of health and could really use some extra money. Being nostalgic, sentimental and border-line hoarder, it personally pains me to attempt to liquidate these items, but then again, they don't pay the rent or put food on the table. As such, I respectfully request some advice/assistance in realizing as much as I can on her behalf. In addition to the few photos posted, there is a box with numerous small folded wax paper envelopes that I have yet to open that are labeled as containing everything from pearls to Peridot, Aquamarine, Opal(s), and Sapphire(s), to name a few...along with a "mini-microscope" and some Bausch & Lomb loupes of varying magnifications. Excuse the blurred photo of the two individual stones, they're quite small, on the order of 2 - 3(?) mm...and the wax paper "envelope" they were in bears "Sapphire" and "Ruby", and "1:6 MM".
My sincere thanks in advance for anything y'all can provide!
Regards,
Mike

I have heard reports that those Diamond Sets have sold for major $ on eBay. Do some research on it. One lady claimed she got $5000 for her set. I frankly think she was embellishing but I could be wrong.

The rest of the stones don't have a great deal of value in my opinion. I would consider selling them all as a parcel for the purpose of study stones for a student interested in perfecting their skills in Gem ID.

If there is a Gem/Mineral Club in your area perhaps they could give you some better insight into the value of your parcels:

Okay, I just had to go look :P . Check it out. Of course, what someone asks and what someone gets is two different things  .

This set was missing three stones and sold for much less.

And this set, though it had all stones, sold for much less than the current one is being offered at.

Wow...that's substantially more than I anticipated, even the $455! My sincerest thanks to you both!!! If not too much trouble, I'll be posting a few more photos soon of the rest of his collection.
