Let's imagine, or in reality, consider a situation where you have access to a LOT (20k carats+ ) of some material coming from several mining areas. let's say it's..oh.. high color ruby or fanta orange spessarite...

So, you fly to either thailand or china and get the stuff cut.. (hopefully not robbed too much in the process) .

Where/who do you sell these goods to? In the diamond business, you'd just walk into the club and start making deals... I know it doesn't work that way in colored stones..

Are there large wholesalers that feed big manufactures? Do you approach manufactureres? Where do quantities of material feed into the marketplace.. I'm sure there's a gaping maw  out there somewhere that picks this stuff up...

I know how the small scale stuff works, but I haven't got a clue how the industry structure works in terms of quantities of colored stone.. it's vertical or horizontal integration and where the entry points are..

Can someone lift the veil please??

wouldn't that be the way to deny yourself money? Wouldn't smaller, higher priced parcels go faster and gain you more money? I would get a website (virtually no overhead and billions of customers), try not to be money-hungry and feed the material into the market bit by bit. Learn from de Beers... I think all the gaping maw's have people out there buying straight of the mines in order to increase their profits... No?

Interesting question...
