Ebay seems to have gone crazy! Their greed has just increased to new levels - they announced today an increase to their store owners of 50% to up to 500% increase in all applicable fees. If we kept our inventory at current levels, this would be a huge increase in our monthly fees (whether we sell anything or not). It wont affect us too badly as we are already in the process of moving our stock to our new website anyway but their actions will really hurt many thousands of hard working honest traders.

It might also make it difficult for the dodgy & dishonest traders but they will always find another way where the honest small operators will just close. Ebay's greed for profit is obscene and in the few hours after the announcement, already one Australian auction site received 50 new members within just a couple of hours and reports of their system not keeping up with enquiry.

If Google proceed with their talked about auction site, Ebay may well find their fortunes in reverse. What is frustrating is that the many reports of fraud and fakes being sold are ignored by Ebay because they only care about the profit, not about the buyer. This is similar where the drive for profit is coming at the expense of the people that support them through the fees they pay - a cash cow can be milked to death if you are too greedy!

I suggest that buyers on Ebay should keep an eagle eye on postage costs for any purchase they make as some sellers will try and recoup some of their fees back this way. This has always been a problem but the new system will only make this worse (higher listing fees for store items as the items get more expensive so unfortunately, this means more incentive to list at a low price and gouge the buyer with postage).

cheers
