1.When I told my GIA instructor that I could not get any spec reading on one particular stone, I was told not to worry about it. Some stones are not oriented in such a way to get a good reading. I had to rely on the other measurements.
2.You need the GIA refractometer FOR SURE.
3.I am also going to buy a LW-SW lamp. Just 'cause I've always wanted one.

I agree about the OPL spectroscope with stand-they're great! I ran across a used set on eBay but didn't win it. I did some research and ended up getting my set direct from the UK. They include the book for free. Even with the conversion from pounds sterling to $ I spent the same as buying the set from a US distributor.
