Hi you all, :)

My name is Supakit and currently staying in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
I am going to start the GIA’s AJP course (e-learning) soon, and then continuing on for the GG program (on campus) in Carlsbad this spring (Apr. or May).
Since I am really new to the field and this site, could you please help me for some tips or inputs?

1. Is there anyone going to be attending the GIA (Carlsbad) at the same period as well?
2. Do you know any GIA alumni who have completed the GG program (at Carlsbad) and happened to live/work in Thailand or Canada now?
3. Any suggestion for a place/area to live near the Carlsbad Campus (in addition to looking up on Craigslist)?

I really appreciate all the helps and comments! Thank you very much! :D

Welcome, Supakit :D . I can't help you with 1 or 2, but for 3 I suggest contacting GIA for housing recommendations. Carlsbad is a beautiful coastal town and the surrounding area is expensive. If you have generous funds you can find lovely housing options. If your budget is a bit more modest, you may have to live in a community a bit further inland, or perhaps find a roommate.

You will love studying on campus! The view is breathtaking and the weather usually pleasant. I envy you :P !

I don't know if the gent did his GG in Carlsbad or not, but the son (I assume it's the son) of the owner of The Orchid Jade factory in Chiang Mai might be someone you could get information from. Very nice guy. He might have done his in Bangkok though, I didn't ask.

Do you know how I could contact the son?
Is it possible to refer me to them first? So I can politely contact him right after.
I really appreciate this. Thank you!

I'm sure you have me confused with the Administrator of this site: Barbra . Same name, different spelling :P . I can only dream of attaining the status and knowledge of Ms. Voltaire [-o< .

Please let us know when you begin your journey to become a GG. Should you need assistance or just an ear, the folk on this board are generous with their knowledge and time :D .

He works in the store/factory, so he's pretty easy to find. I've only met him once a few weeks ago, and then as a client so I'm not sure he'd remember me. I'd say drop in when it's not busy or call first (there is a big sign outside saying something about GIA gemologists working there) and see if he's got time to chat.
