I am planning on taking some Gemology courses in the new year. I live in Canada but the Institution only offers correspondence and I would prefer to do it inline. My Question is if I take an online course either U.S. or Britain are they recognized only country specific or will Insurance companies acknowledge out of country credentials.
I live in Canada as well and I am currently finishing the last course for the (correspondence/ online) Graduated Gemologist program. GIA's Graduation Gemologist program and Gem-A's Fellowship of the Gemmological Association designation are both world recognized (...except in China - official said they will only recognize NGTC's Certified Gemologist of China if you want to open a lab or something there
When you were mentioning about "inline", I suppose you meant "on site". If you live in BC or Ontario, you may choose to study gemology from Canadian Gemmological Association for the FCGmA designation at the local college (VCC Vancouver) or at CGA (Toronto). The curriculum is identical to FGA. Until two years ago, students can finish all the course work at CGA and write a challenge exam to obtain a FGA designation -- too bad FGA have changed their mind and now they want to take all the tuition fees as well...
Are you studying the apprasial part of the insurance program? If so, you may have to contact your institute and see which of diploma they recognize.
